This just in from Mr. Scott: a $5,500 hooker, when adjusted for Spitzer’s reported income in 2000, is only worth $61.66 to him.

Village Academies/Esquire Event

We attended a fundraiser for Lisa’s work last night, honoring Bill Cosby and others. It was held in Esquire’s swank Esquire North penthouse on Central Park North, and the magazine is also featuring Village Academies founder Deborah Kenny in this month’s issue:

In six years, Kenny’s vision has grown into a trio of charter schools under the rubric of Village Academies, located in New York precincts where a muscular poverty has thrived for generations. The numbers alone tell a compelling story. Locally, passing rates for seventh-grade math hover around 30 percent. At HVA, the rate is a stunning 96 percent.

Cast members from Gossip Girl showed up, and Tyler Hilton played a few songs, (who played Elvis in Walk the Line Johnny Cash movie).

At least the ladies look good – Matt and I have taken better pictures.

Apple Picking

We went Apple Picking upstate, in Warwick, NY. Jason and I discovered something more challenging than chucking apples at each other – spearing them with a stick, and then attempting to fling them at each other. The one pictured above is bouncing violently towards me.

It’s been 3 years since we last went apple picking.

9 years

cardThe years are just flying by, I can’t believe it… on monday, the girl and I celebrated 9 years together, in the best way we know how: sharing a tasty meal.

And what better place to have a nice dinner, than a 4-star restaurant in a converted Burger King? Seriously.

Rendezvous just opened up in Central Square, in the old Burger King, and it is really really good. The Phoenix loves it. So does the Globe. And we do, too.

8-year Anniversary

Just a note of thanks to Stef & Nobuko for recommending Dali’s for our anniversary dinner.

Presley and I have been together now for 8 years, and I don’t think we’ve ever had a finer experience. Because of the blizzard, we had to delay one day, but it was worth the wait… (a couple of photos of us… gag!)

Tapas items that we ordered:

  • Mejillones con Aguacate (Green-Lipped Mussels w/Avocado)
  • Queso de Cabra Montaña (Baked Goat Cheese w/Tomato & Basil)
  • Gambas al Ajillo (Garlic Shrimp)
  • Vieiras al Azafrán (Scallops in Saffron Cream)
  • Ravioles de Mariscos (Lobster/Crabmeat Ravioli w/Langostino Sauce)
  • Solomillo en Tostada (Beef Tenderloin w/Pimento on Toast)

And, for dessert:

  • Filloa al Licor (Fruit-filled Dessert Crepe accented with Chocolate Sauce and Orange Liquor)

Apple Picking

From Flickr: Guess what Presley found? No really, there weren't many apples to pick.Last summer, after we were forced out of our beloved Mass Ave apartment, due to negligent fire, we were fortunate to be taken in by some truly great people. And these people invited us to go apple picking last year, something I hadn’t done since I was a kid. It was the kind of thing you don’t do enough, living in the city.

This year, the crew consisted of Jason & Liz, Bryan & Jill, and Presley & I. We headed further up the North Shore this year, to Ipswich, MA. Seemed like a lovely town, though we spent all of our time on the farm.

How great is it that they make you take a hay ride before you can pick apples?

Anniversary with the Sabres

romantic night

A romantic night wouldn’t be complete without Canadian beer

On January 23, Presley and I marked our 7th anniversary, and I couldn’t think of a better way to spend it than at the Sabres-Bruins hockey game. Am I right?

Just so you don’t think I’m weird, our first “date” was a Sabres game (in Buffalo) in December of 1996. So, it was a nice reminder for us, and it was cool. Thanks to Craigslist, we got first-row, on-the-glass seats. Amazing.

6 Years <3

Presley and I spent our 6th anniversary at Carlos, little Italian restaurant in the old neighborhood in Allston. It’s a quiant little place with good wine and terrific food. She had an Rigatone with Eggplant roll, meatballs, sausages and chicken, in a plum tomato sauce. I had the lobster ravioli with salmon, plum tomatoes, in a lemon vodka sauce. She gave me the new McSweeny’s package of issues 1-3 (reprint) and the upcoming issue 10. I gave her… um, dinner. I’m poor lately.
